27 Oct Our Spooktacular Lump Check – limited time offer!
If you have ever noticed a lump or bump on your pet, you may have found this really worrying. Lumps and bumps are fairly common and they can appear for a variety of reasons. However, while many are harmless, others could indicate infections, allergic reactions, or even more serious conditions such as cancer. The only way to know for sure is to have them checked by a vet.
Often, the time we notice lumps or bumps appearing on our pets is during grooming or simply during a belly rub, for example. Regularly checking your pet for any changes is important.
What should I do if I find a lump, bump or unusual growth?
Take note of the following:
- Size – has it grown quickly?
- Texture – is it soft, hard, or irregular?
- Mobility – does it move under the skin, or feel fixed in place?
- Changes – has it started to ulcerate, bleed, or cause discomfort?
- Number – is it a single lump or are there several?
This information will be very helpful for your vet and help you to monitor the growth over time.
Remember, the best course of action is always to get it checked as soon as possible for an accurate diagnosis. Early evaluation can help determine whether treatment is necessary and ensure the overall health and comfort of your pet.
What might I notice on my pet?
Growths can vary in size, shape, texture, and location, and they may grow slowly or rapidly over time. Lumps and bumps can develop under or on your pet’s skin, and even within mouths, for example.
Common benign (non-harmful) causes include lipomas (fatty tumors often found in older pets), sebaceous cysts (blocked oil glands), abscesses (pockets of pus from infections or bites), and ever warts or skin tags. These typically don’t pose a serious threat, but they can still become irritated or infected, especially if your pet scratches or bites at them and so they too need to be checked.
However, some growths can be more serious. Malignant tumors, such as mast cell tumors, melanomas, or soft tissue sarcomas, may look similar to those less sinister at first glance, which is why professional evaluation by a vet is so important. Changes in size, colour, texture, or behaviour of the lump (such as bleeding or rapid growth) are red flags that should prompt immediate veterinary attention.
When should I get it checked?
- The lump is growing or changing in appearance.
- It’s painful, bleeding, or oozing.
- Your pet is licking, scratching, or chewing at it.
- They seem unwell — losing weight, eating less, or behaving differently.
- Even if the lump seems small and harmless, it’s always best to have it checked for peace of mind.
I am worried about a lump or bump on my pet – take advantage of our Spooktacular Lump Check Offer
Fear not! Our spooktacular lump check offer is running until 15th November, giving pet owners the opportunity to get their pets lumps checked and fixed, before things potentially turn ghastly!
Stage 1
We can triage your pet’s growths from photos you send us through PetsApp or Instagram. Simply snap a photo, send it to us, and we’ll be in touch when a member of our veterinary team has reviewed it!
Stage 2
If we think you should bring your pet to us for an in-person examination, we will invite you for a consultation dedicated entirely to skin examination. This is free for Wolfe Pack members or £37.50, a 50% discount on a normal 15-minute consultation price, if you are not already in The Wolfe Pack.
Stage 3
We will assess the growths and may suggest taking a sample if we have any concerns.
Stage 4
If the sample shows something that concerns us, we will talk you through the next steps in our usual calm, thorough and reassuring way.
Stage 5
We will remove any growths that require surgery and monitor your pet along the way as they heal. Once they are fully healed, we will sign them off for full contact sports as soon as possible. Our aim is always to get them back on all four paws as quickly as possible!
During our Spooktacular Lump Check, between 15th October and 15th November, we are offering a 10% discount on any procedures to investigate or remove skin growths. This is in addition to the 10% discount already offered in the Wolfe Pack.
The photo-assisted wart check service will continue without the time-limited discount on fees.
