“Imagine the action of a vaccine not just in terms of how it affects a single body, but also in terms of how it affects the collective body of a community.” Eula Bliss
“Vaccines are the tugboats of preventive health.” Jeffrey Klueger
Canine and feline vaccines continue to save millions of lives a year. Vaccines have saved more lives than anyone can understand. Smallpox vaccination saved 130 million lives and eradicated the disease, the measles vaccine has saved 120 million lives so far, tetanus vaccination 60 million lives. Rinderpest, the terrible and painful cattle infection, was eradicated through mass vaccination.
What we vaccinate against:
Dogs require protection against: Canine Parvovirus (life threatening gastroenteritis and bone marrow disease), Canine Distemper Virus (life threatening respiratory and neurological disease), Canine Adenovirus (life threatening liver disease), Leptospirosis (life threatening liver, kidney and red blood cell disease). After the initial course and first year booster all of the diseases other than Leptospira are boosted every 3-4 years. Dogs require annual Leptospira protection, this condition is spread by rats and is present locally. We also provide annual Bordetella vaccination as infectious tracheobronchitis is so common in London.
Cats require protection against: Feline Calicivirus & Feline Herpesvirus (CVR – Cat Flu), Feline Panleukopaenia virus (FPV – Fatal Gastroenteritis) and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV – Fatal bone marrow and cancerous disease). After the initial course and first year booster the CVR+FPV and the FeLV are given on alternate years.
Cats and dogs age faster than humans, if we pick up an illness early we can often cure it or manage it before it does permanent damage. It is very important to schedule health checks twice a year.
