Extended Appointments

Wolfe Vets wants to fix your pets problems. We run advanced clinical services for some of the most common presentations of illness: lameness & arthritis, breathing difficulties, brachycephalic airway problems (BOAS), skin complaints, growths, long term or recurrent coughs, heart murmurs, recurrent vomiting and diarrhoea, increased thirst & urination and incontinence, to name a few. If your pet suffers any of these problems please request an extended appointment and you will receive a 30 minute consultation for only 50% more than the costs of  a single consultation, this allows patients a comprehensive service from the very first time we treat them so that we can get your pet better, faster.

Lameness and arthritis

Limping, stiffness, being less fit and active on walks, slowing down, becoming unwilling to use stairs, dogs hesitating to jump in & out of the car, cats grooming less or being withdrawn. Any of these symptoms can signify spinal or musculoskeletal pain. Wolfe Vets offers a longer consultation to allow a complete gait evaluation, orthopaedic examination, full history taking and then leave time to explain what tests and treatment are required to obtain a diagnosis and get your pet back on his or her feet properly again. Wolfe Vets makes use of a wide range of surgical and non-surgical therapies such as intra-articular treatments (joint injections), physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

Breathing difficulties, coughs and sneezes

Respiratory distress is a life threatening condition. If your pet is suffering a sudden difficulty breathing please call 0208 167 4477 now, it is an emergency. If your pet has a longer history of noisy, hoarse or wheezy breathing, and can wait for a scheduled appointment, or, if a cough or severe sneeze has not gone away in a fortnight, it needs to be investigated. Wolfe Vets is fully equipped to diagnose and treat these problems. Wolfe Vets offer a longer consultation time so that we can obtain a full history, perform a detailed examination of your pet’s respiratory system, take initial samples and advise on the next steps required to obtain a diagnosis and help your pet breathe easy again.

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)

Bulldogs, Pugs, Pekinese, Boston Terriers and many other shorter nosed breeds of dogs suffer a whole lifetime of compromised breathing. Noisy breathing is difficult breathing. If your pet is panting or noisy after light exercise, when walking around the house or even sleeping then your pet needs help. We have considerable experience managing BOAS: dogs lives can be improved immeasurably. We run longer consults so that the problem and solution can be fully examined, explained and planned. A fixed price package is available for surgical BOAS correction.

Heart murmurs

A heart murmur is not necessarily a life threatening problem, but it can be. Correct diagnosis allows appropriate planning and management. Wolfe Vets has human quality ultrasound facilities. Early diagnosis of cardiac diseases improves and prolongs high quality life, it is good for your pet’s welfare. Wolfe Vets can help you look after your pet’s heart for longer.

Skin conditions

Itchy or red skin, hair loss, overgrooming, scabs and crusts or dandruff. A complete skin examination allows detailed planning and diagnosis of skin conditions, a comprehensive dietary history and record of the symptoms needs to be taken, samples are often required. Wolfe Vets books 30 minute consultations for long term skin complaints. Skin conditions are often long term problems requiring repeat visits and detailed consultations, more time for you and your pets means that we can manage their skin complaints better, for life.

Growths

Dogs and cats are prone to lumps and bumps. These are often benign but frequently malignant. Wolfe Vets prefers to examine and sample growths as soon as possible in order to plan any surgical or non-surgical intervention that may be needed. We like to book a longer consultation to run a full nodule clinic: giving added time to take a full history, perform a complete clinical examination, obtain samples and discuss our plan. Growths and the potential for cancer is a worry for pet owners, we are committed to diagnosing and treating tumours compassionately and effectively.

Recurrent vomiting or diarrhoea

A prolonged bout of vomiting or diarrhoea can suggest a significant underlying illness. Wolfe Vets take our time to obtain a full dietary and clinical history, perform complete clinical examination and evaluation, determine and discuss possible diagnoses and testing, and enact that plan. There are many possible diagnoses for gastro-intestinal upsets, therefore a logical and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plan is required.

Increased thirst and urination or incontinence

Polyuria, Polydipsia or Urinary incontinence are classic symptoms of a variety of non-surgical and surgical illnesses. A relaxed and complete history and clinical examination will lead on to a discussion of the laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging that may be required to determine the diagnosis and start treating your pet.

Perineal problems

We are not shy of talking about bottoms. There are a range of lower intestinal, rectal and perineal (around the anus/bottom) issues that benefit from early surgical or non-surgical intervention. Please book a dedicated clinic in order to have time to diagnose and discuss the problem, tests required and possible treatments. It can be life changing to return a patient’s bottom to normal.
