07 Sep 24-Hour Emergency Veterinary Care in London: How We Can Help Your Pet
When your pet is unwell or has an accident, it can be difficult to know where to turn, particularly when it happens outside your usual vet’s opening hours. At Wolfe Vets, our Fulham hospital provides emergency and critical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our aim is to make sure that when your pet needs urgent veterinary attention, experienced veterinary professionals and comprehensive hospital facilities are available around the clock.
As well as our emergency service, we provide routine veterinary care, advanced diagnostics, hospitalisation and specialist surgery across our Chiswick and Fulham practices.
Our 24-hour emergency veterinary service
Emergencies don’t happen to a convenient schedule. Your pet may suddenly become unwell late at night, at the weekend or when your usual veterinary practice is closed.
Our Fulham hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a member of our team on site around the clock. Outside our normal clinic hours, emergency appointments are arranged at our Fulham 24-hour centre.
If you are concerned that your pet may need emergency care, please call us before attending the clinic. Our team can discuss what is happening and advise you on the appropriate next steps.
What is a veterinary emergency?
There are many different situations that can require urgent veterinary attention. Some examples we list on our website include:
- Hit by a car or other severe trauma
- Fall from the roof or higher
- Inability to urinate
- Vomiting or diarrhoea associated with severe weakness
- Collapse
- Markedly bloated abdomen
- Heatstroke or hypothermia
- Inability to breathe or choking on a foreign object
- Animal attack or bite
- Difficulty giving birth
- Eye injury
- Severe cut or profuse bleeding
- Open fracture
- Loss of use of one or more limbs
- Prolonged seizure (time all seizures and call us if they are recurrent or last over 3 minutes)
If you are unsure whether your pet’s condition constitutes an emergency, please call our team. We are here to support you and can help you determine what to do.
We’re a veterinary hospital, not simply an out-of-hours clinic
One of the things that makes Wolfe Vets different is that our Fulham practice is an RCVS-accredited 24-hour hospital.
Our hospital provides emergency and critical care alongside advanced referral services and expert surgical and non-surgical support. This means that, when your pet needs more than an emergency consultation, we have the hospital facilities to provide further care, investigations and treatment. Our Fulham hospital includes dedicated treatment and diagnostic areas, fully equipped operating theatres and separate facilities for cats and dogs.
Comfortable, purpose-designed hospitalisation
If your pet needs to stay in hospital, we understand how important it is that they are cared for in a suitable environment. Our hospital has separate cat and dog wards and waiting areas. Our wards are temperature-controlled, while our cages are sound-buffered and our hospital benefits from a specialised hygienic air exchange system. A member of our team is on site at all times, and our highly trained nurses and patient care team provide care for hospitalised patients and regular updates to their owners.
Advanced diagnostics when your pet needs further investigation
An emergency consultation may be the first step in understanding what is wrong with your pet. Sometimes further diagnostic investigations are needed to help our veterinary team determine the most appropriate treatment.
We have access to a range of advanced diagnostic facilities, including:
- CT scanning
- Digital radiography
- Ultrasound
- Endoscopy
- Arthroscopy
- In-depth in-house laboratory analysis
- Diagnostic ophthalmology
- Diagnostic dermatology
Our diagnostic facilities are state-of-the-art and hospital-standard, helping us investigate a wide range of conditions, all under one roof, limiting any additional stress for you.
Advanced surgery at Wolfe Vets
Our veterinary hospital also provides access to advanced surgical expertise. Our Advanced Surgery Team provides a range of procedures, including keyhole, BOAS, orthopaedic, spinal, eye and cancer surgery, alongside other advanced procedures.
We also have a dedicated minimally invasive surgical suite, supporting our ability to provide advanced surgical care. For pets requiring more complex treatment, having emergency care, hospitalisation, diagnostics and advanced surgery available through our veterinary service allows us to provide a comprehensive approach to their care.
An experienced veterinary team
Our emergency and hospital services are supported by an experienced team of veterinary surgeons and nurses. Our team includes diploma and certificate holders, and Wolfe Vets has over 100 years of combined experience across our vets and nurses. Many members of our team hold advanced qualifications and have worked in advanced referral centres across the UK. We also have Advanced Practitioners within the team, with expertise across different areas of veterinary medicine.
Independent veterinary care
Wolfe Vets is an independent, family-owned veterinary business, with practices in Chiswick and Fulham. Being independent is an important part of who we are. We are locally owned and run, and we are embedded in the local community.
